New Drug May Slow Aging Process

A new drug has been found that may actually slow down the rate that our bodies age. It is called Rapamycin and it is found in the South Pacific on Easter Island. Studies have shown that the drug actually increased the life span of mice 28-38%. Now this may be extremely different for humans because of our increased size and complexity but it still is incredible to think about. All the added things a person could complete with 15-20 years of extra life. This would allow people to live longer and healthier and would make it possible for older people to express themselves more. Life gives people a great wealth of knowledge, why not allow them to share that with the world.

  1. Wow that is amazing that we have developed a drug that can potentially allow a person to live longer. Yes this is a beneficial thing and indeed people would live longer more fulfilling lives, however, I also think that we need to think about possible downsides to something like this. Do we really need to live longer? How would this effect the population of the world? Would the planet be able to sustain an increased population? Just some things to think about. Very nice blog though with informative videos, keep up the good work!

  2. I agree with Karinna. It's amazing how we developed a drug that can allow a person to live longer. This blog post is very informative and has an interesting article attached. I would like to see the outcome if they use this drug and it works. It's amazing what scientists can create.

  3. I also agree with Karinna. You know society has come along way when a drug is developed to help reduce the aging process. However with most new drugs there could be problems with the drugs. Before testing it on a human I think scientist need to watch the mice a little longer to see what else is going on.
I think that since the drug is so new, people may rush to take the drug and it could cause people to have other reactions that weren't foreseen while conducting the whole experiment. Also, I wonder if you can take the drug early in life, or do you have to take it later in life. Great topic and continue writing these awesome posts.

  4. This way of reducing fat from your body is a great way but not for everyone because it cost so much for a liposuction surgery and often it’s not covered by insurance so not everyone who’s over weight can afford this expensive procedure. Although there are alternatives that some of us might take it into a consideration is to use some medication or the best way is to just go to the gym and workout, I think that’s the most inexpensive way of losing weight. But for some people who are not willing to go to the gym and workout then this is defiantly a best way to loose the excess fat. But in my opinion I would choose other alternatives before choosing this.

  5. Rapamycin sound like a cool drug. It would allow people to be older and help contribute to society longer. Than again this could hurt society as well. If this drug added 15-20 years of a life do people now retire at 80-85 vs 60-65? If that is the case it creates even a harder job market for the younger generation. Also this seem to create even more moral problem as people are already living older and older.
